Call for Entries: Alma Schapiro Prize and Arthur Ross Award
December 16, 2008 is the deadline for the submitting entries to the 2009 annual Arthur Ross Award for Excellence in the Classical Tradition. Sponsored by the Institute for Classical Architecture and Classical America, the awards will be given to five recipients among these categories: Architecture, Artisanship/Craftsmanship, Community Design/Civic Design/City Planning; Education; History/Journalism/Criticism/Writing/Editing/Publishing; Landscape Design/Gardening; Patronage; Fine Arts/ Stewardship and Graphics/Photography/Illustration. The 2008 Arthur Ross winners included John Simpson, UK, for Architecture; The American College for the Building Arts, Charleston, SC for Education; Mark Alan Hewitt, Bernardsville, NJ, for History/Writing; Alexander Creswell, UK, for Painting; The Committee to Save the City, Charleston, SC, for Stewardship; and Alvin Holm, AIA, for the Board of Directors Honor.
The institute is also offering the Alma Schapiro Prize. It has been developed to advance the career of an American artist and to foster the continuity of knowledge of the classical tradition. The recipient will receive a three-month fellowship at the American Academy in Rome. The deadline for submissions is November 3, 2008.
