Along with growing awareness of the community-building importance
of humane and civilized public spaces comes a parallel interest in site furnishings
that help build a sense of civitas. As a result, manufacturers are coming

which most people associate with "kinder, gentler times."
From their files, the editors have culled these companies who supply
historically styled benches in a wide range of materials.
Most benches will have steel or
cast iron frames with slats of wood or recycled plastic.
But you'll also find sources for benches
in concrete, cast stone, carved stone, and a variety of other materials.
While most are newly made historic replicas, a few of the sources listed will
also supply antique benches.
Each issue of TRADITIONAL BUILDING contains 18 or more
such reports covering products and services used in restoration,
renovation, and historically styled new construction of public
architecture. If you would like to subscribe, please visit our
