SHOW PREVIEW
Traditional Building Exhibition & Conference
Mark your calendars for March 12-15 and plan to be in Boston, MA, for the Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference at the Hynes Convention Center. The event will include more than 70 seminars, workshops and tours in a city that is rich in architectural tradition. In addition, approximately 150 exhibitors will feature their hard-to-find traditional products and services. The conference program runs for four days (March 12-15) and the exhibit hall for three days (March 13-15).
"The Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference is the only national trade show and conference for historic home owners, architects, designers, contractors and developers, planners, building owners and craftsmen involved in historic restoration, renovation and traditionally inspired new design and construction,” says show director Eric Peterson.
“The show is an approved provider of continuing-education credits for architects, interior designers, members of the American Institute of Building Design, the American Planning Association’s Institute of Certified Planners, and for NAHB members who hold their Certified Graduate Remodeler, Certified Master Builder and Graduate Master Builder designations. We can help others document their work experiences for state licensure and employment needs, as well,” adds conference director Judy Hayward.
Educational seminars and workshops will cover a wide array of topics and product segments, including window and sash repair, plaster repair, roofing, siding, ornamental ironwork and paint selection. Live demonstrations in the exhibit hall will feature traditional-building techniques, how-to information and old-world craftsmanship.
“We have a special emphasis this year on the ‘trowel trades,’” says Hayward. “Spend four days with us and you will get a comprehensive learning experience on everything from terra cotta to concrete, lime mortar to tuck pointing for stonework, and plaster repair to salvaging stone. There are several programs that make the link between sustainable practices and historic preservation and contemporary traditional building. The sessions are designed to help professionals look for the green aspects of saving historic buildings and to help them make that case with clients. Window repair and replacement will be covered in five programs.”
One of the highlights at the Spring 2008 Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference will be keynote speaker Joseph Riley, the mayor of Charleston, SC, who has been so instrumental in restoring this historic city. He will speak about the role of architecture in the community. The other keynote speaker will be Frank Shirley, architect and author of New Rooms for Old Houses.
