PIPE-STYLE SNOW GUARD ON A MEMBRANE ROOF (above):
Continuous block is required under membrane roof surface to attach base plate. Mounting this system over insulation alone may crush the insulation and cause the roof to leak. System consists of base plate, membrane flashing for base plate, and snow-guard block. Installation requires acceptable sealant and proper mastic for membrane flashing. Horizontal spacing between brackets should be 48 in. maximum. This may have to be decreased due to variable conditions.
Contact manufacturer for detailed layout and installation specifications.

PIPE-STYLE SNOW GUARD ON METAL ROOF (left):
Brackets clamp onto standing seam with setscrews. Brackets are typically available for one-, two-, or three-pipe systems. Horizontal spacing between brackets should be 48 in. maximum. This may have to be decreased under certain conditions. Contact manufacturer for detailed layout
PAD-STYLE SNOW GUARD LAYOUT FOR SLATE, TILE, AND SHINGLE ROOFING (left):
Layout shown is minimum recommended pattern. Vertical spacing between each row is 12 in. to 18 in., depending on shingle exposure. Horizontal spacing is 24 in. o.c.
First row of snow guards is placed above outermost wall or support of the building. The three-row layout pattern should be repeated every 15 ft. up the roof slope. Rafter lengths greater than 15 ft. but less than 30 ft. need two 3-row courses of snow guards.
Contact manufacturer for detailed layout and for layouts in areas over 70 lb./sq. ft. loads. Installation details differ between new installation and retrofits.

RETROFITTING WIRE-LOOP-STYLE SNOW GUARDS FOR SLATE, TILE, AND SHINGLE ROOFING (above):
Quantity of snow guards depends on roof slope and snow load. Hook end of snow guard is slid up into place until the hook engages to the top edge of the slate. Helpful hints: Hook the copper hook over the top of a slate ripper and use the slate ripper to slide the snow guard into place. When the hook engages, pull the slate ripper out and the snow guard will stay in place. First row of snow guards is placed above the outermost wall or support of the building. Contact manufacturer for detailed layout.
