Al Bar-Wilmette Platers was founded in 1937 by two craftsman dedicated to the restoration and preservation of fine artifacts for the communities just north of Chicago, Lake Michigan’s exclusive “North Shore”. Al Bar-Wilmette Platers, a family owned shop, continues building on their foundation of excellence by providing complete restoration services. Today, we offer services nationwide, specializing in the restoration of metal items found in both period and newly constructed homes.

At Al Bar-Wilmette Platers, we specialize in restoring historic hardware and metal fixtures, as well as providing many services to assist in your home remodeling project. We restore metal finishes, furnish missing parts, repair and rewire lamps and chandeliers, refurbish locks, and plate new hardware to match historic finishes. For decades, homeowners have found that, with our help, their original hardware looks as good as the day
it was first installed.

In addition to these services, we also have one of the country’s largest collections of salvage door hardware to help you complete your set of door knobs and face plates. If period hardware
is needed for your project, don’t settle for a hardware catalogue’s limited options of poor reproductions. Restore the original hardware to preserve the integrity of your home. We have the technology and skill to design, cast (using high quality lost wax casting techniques), machine and hand finish custom architectural hardware for interior and exterior doors.
