Lead sheet has been in use as a roofing material for more than 2000 years. The
Greeks, Romans, Turks and all peoples of modern Europe have found lead sheet

Specifications
Lead sheet for roofing is a rolled product. Roofing sheets should conform to
ASTM Specification: B-749, Copper Bearing Lead. It is the consistency of lead
used for roofing over the ages that allows one to predict its long-term performance
with confidence. To achieve this superior life, lead sheet must be specified
and installed correctly according to American Eagle Roofing Systems, Inc. specifications.
Lead Shingles
Lead shingles are long-lasting, and will last more than 100 years. When the
useful life of the structure is over, the lead can be reclaimed and start life
over again as a battery or as X-ray shielding! Weight of the shingles is about
400 pounds per square, hardly more than a good grad of asphalt shingle which
lasts little more than 20 years.

and unversities all over the world have a lead roof systems that are virtually
maintenence-free and have lasted hundreds of years. Made of the same stuff -
