The Barn People are a small group of Vermont craftsmen who do one thing: purchase, dismantle, restore, and reassemble endangered vintage Vermont barns and outbuildings. We are one of only a handful of companies in the U.S. that specialize in relocating antique barns. We have been told that we "set the standard" for the vintage barn business. We have been dismantling and reassembling Vermont barns since 1974, and have relocated dozens of barns from coast to coast.
Our work has been featured in numerous books and magazine articles. Most of our clients have utilized our barns as living spaces, however, we've also been involved in museum projects for historical societies and town municipalities, as well as the U.S. Forest Service. This year alone we've built two pool houses, two garages, many dwellings -- and a few barns just to serve as barns.
The Barn People maintain a large inventory of barns in many shapes and sizes. Each barn is unique and "one of a kind," yet all of them share the same warm, mellowed timber woods, and are held together with wooden pegs. The integrity of the precision joinery is obvious. All these barns have withstood the test of time and hard use. Each barn offers pleasing proportions and a simplicity of design which is easily adaptable to either contemporary or traditional interpretations.
The majority of our inventory are still standing on their original sites. Although many clients have purchased a barn from us without actually seeing it, we offer you the opportunity to come for a visit and tour the barns that interest you. The Barn People are available to assist you throughout your project, including barn frame selection, preliminary design, and the selection of antique building materials.
