The Durable Slate Company

The Durable Slate Company was founded in 1986, carving out an early niche as a slate roof restoration contractor. at that time, practice of the craft of slate roofing had almost disappeared, and most local roofing companies were unable to maintain the structural and aesthetic integrity of historic slate roofs.

The first step was to research and reinstate training in traditional slate roofing techniques. Then, by accumulating a large selection of salvaged slate, Durable Slate was able to complete major restorations while maintaining the original beauty which these roofs possessed.

Durable Slate has gone on to specialize in the installation, restoration, and maintenance of both slate and metal roofs. We also install and maintain roof components such as copper, steel, and box-gutter systems, chimneys, and flashings. Our general contracting division specializes in historical structures and a material sales division brokers salvaged roofing slate and clay tile throughout the country.

Period homes, both old and new, which evoke the grand architectural traditions of the 19th century, will always be in demand. Interest in new slate roofs has experienced a resurgence in recent years. Durable Slate, with its level of experience and craftsmanship, can provide customers with high quality work and swift installation.
