Longleaf Lumber is an antique lumber company located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Berwick, Maine. We resaw structural timbers and decking of old-growth Longleaf Pine which we salvage from Mill buildings in the New England area. Longleaf mills these salvaged timbers into beautiful flooring, stair parts, mouldings, and other architectural needs. We deal primarily in Longleaf pine, also known as heart pine. No tree has played a larger role in American history than the Longleaf. England considered Longleaf Pine one of the principal resources of the American Colonies, due to its maritime applications. Shipbuilders used it for masts, decking, and framing. Naval stores (turpenine, tar, rosin) were all derived from the Longleaf. Here in the Boston area, Victorian era homes are floored primarily with Longleaf Heart Pine. The dismantling of the urban forest is now the primary source for Longleaf Pine. Demolition contractors who once smashed everything indiscriminantly now have realized the efficiency of salvaging the wood from old buildings. Milling operations such as ours are dedicated to processing this venerable wood into yet another incarnation. Longleaf Lumber also carries Chestnut, Eastern White Pine, Oak, and other products associated with antique buildings, which we dismantle around the New England area. We are a fully equipped mill, and will custom mill to your specifications. Very often, highly specific architectural standards need to be satisfied and we are capable of meeting those demands.
