The artisans of P.H. Miller Studio specialize in the restoration and faithful reproduction of antique picture frames in the full range of period styles, techniques and materials. Their skills are comprehensive and include invisible structural repair, detailed wood carving, ornamental plaster and gesso foundation repair. P.H. Miller Studio is expert in traditional American and European finishes, especially gilt finishes such the toning and burnishing of gold leaf. They conduct regular professional workshops in oil and water gilding.

Gold Leafing in both traditional water gilding and mordant or oil gilding techniques is available at Miller Frame Studio. While most gilding applications require the use of 22k gold leaf, other karat gold leaf may be used. Metal leaf or composition leaf is also available and used in some situations. Materials used for sizing, gesso surfacing, clay boles as well as the actual gold leaf are the highest in quality. Final effects of toning and burnishing are tailored to meet the requirements of each frame as well as the specific requirements of the customer. The Beaux Arts Gallery/Miller Frame Studio will design and produce an original frame to complement your artwork and your home or office.Peter Miller is a board member of SOG (Society of Gilders)and teaches water gilding at the Brookfield Craft Center, Brookfield, CT.
