RPM, a masonry restoration and waterproofing contractor, located in Ashland, MA, has been performing major restoration contracts in the Boston and metropolitan Boston area since 1993. Many of these projects include the re-pointing of mortar joints as a part of the contract scope. In an effort to satisfy the requirements of a cutting operation and continue to be a front-runner in safety and quality, we have designed and implemented a dust collection system presently in use on our jobs.

RPM, Inc., a masonry restoration and waterproofing contractor located in Ashland, MA, has been performing major restoration contracts in the Boston and metropolitan Boston area since 1993. Many of these projects include the re-pointing of mortar joints as a part of the contract scope.Masonry Restoration Contractors are currently facing the challenge of collecting mortar dust created from the mechanical cutting of masonry and stone mortar joints in a joint re-pointing operation.
Health concerns for the workers exposed to this dust, as well as protecting adjacent persons and properties, requires collection of this normally airborne material.
In an effort to satisfy the requirements of a cutting operation and continue to be a front-runner in safety and quality, we have designed and implemented a dust collection system presently in use on our jobs. The system is comprised of special mechanical tool hoods to collect the mortar dust during the cutting operation. The dust is then vacuumed through a series of flexible and rigid PVC piping to a filtered collection box.
We have and will continue to work with safety and health organizations, local unions and manufacturing experts to fine-tune our system.
