Old World Stone Carving was formed in 1993 by artist and stone carver Dale Johnson. The company has functioned as a federation of sculptors, each with his/her own areas of expertise. Mr. Johnson has had the ability to work with architects, builders, and homeowners to fulfill hundreds of commissions, in a wide range of styles and media. The group includes a master woodworker and furnituremaker, specializing in classic forms; a metalsmith/machinist capable of almost anything in fabricated metals; a stone carver with an extraordinary gift for naturalism and reproduction; an apprenticeship program that teaches all the above skills, and incorporates them into the contemporary, original furniture and sculpture; and a designer whose ideas have satisfied clients in almost every conceivable style.
Recent developments at Old World Stone Carving include a professional gallery, a kiln adapted for casting glass, and the continued expansion of the artist and craftsperson stable needed to accomplish the commissions that come in from around the world. Ecclesiastic work and contemporary furniture in marble, metal, wood, and glass have been recent additions to the repertoire.
Old World is a team capable of almost any project, regardless of style, in any scale. We specialize in creative solutions and designs, and regard the final commissioned work as a cooperative project realized by both the client and ourselves. Each piece executed by Old World is unique and one-of-a-kind. We guarantee that no piece we execute will be reproduced and sold to another client.
