Steptoe & Wife has pioneered the development of several aspects of the renovation and restoration industry. Specializing in architectural metal products, Steptoe introduced decorative cast iron spiral and straight staircases to the market in the mid 1970s. The 5 ft. diameter Barclay model and the 4 ft. and 5 ft. diameter Albany models have set the standard for quality and design. Comprised of modular components, these staircases can be installed indoors or out and adapted to most existing locations. The 4 ft. wide Kensington cast iron straight staircase remains the only modular reproduction 19th century staircase on the market. Steptoe continues to fabricate these models and market them around the world. Custom architectural projects that include the use of decorative stampings, copper and zinc, aluminum, steel, brass and bronze fabrication have been successfully completed across North America. These projects include large-scale canopy construction, custom staircase and railing design & manufacture, and duplication of existing castings and designs for rails and grilles. Steptoe works on both commercial and residential projects. Steptoe was among the first to introduce a comprehensive decorative drapery hardware product line. Today, Curtains Up™ is designed and manufactured by Steptoe's sister company Alhambra™ Hardware Company and is marketed worldwide by a network of fine distributors. This range, fabricated in cast resin, forged and cast iron, aluminum and wood includes rods, rings, finials, brackets and tie-backs. Steptoe and Alhambra operate from a 40,000 sq. ft. factory/showroom/office facility in the Design & Decor District of Totonto.
