Robert A. M. Stern Book Review

Mr. Labine must be more careful when using the word "Master";he loses credibility as a result. The issue shouldn't always be "us (traditionalists) versus them (modernists). Just because someone doesn't like Stern's work doesn't mean that they love Gehry and Libeskind. Perhaps the issue is rather, of all the architects who are practicing Traditional Building Architecture, who are the most skilled from concept to detail? My exposure to R.A.M. Stern's firm's work always leaves me wanting a little more tweaking of detail and proportion...the concept is usually palatable, but it never seems "masterly". The Comcast Center, by the way, is unspeakably inappropriate for Philadelphia and I am somewhat shocked by your praise.
If you are looking for "Masters" in the Traditional Building realm, may I suggest Steven W. Semes. Even the few projects of his that are represented in the current issue clearly show he "gets it" more than the more prolific Stern.

Review of Stern Book

Thank you for the compliment. I've never been called a "master" before and quite like it, since I consider myself still a kid. But.....ouch! I hope Bob doesn't hate me for this!
